I wanted to cap off 2018 by taking a moment to say thank you. Thank you for reading our emails, blog or LinkedIn articles—however you get our content—we appreciate you.
And in that spirit of appreciation, I’d like to send our best BespokeHR wishes for the holiday season. Merry Christmas to you and your families and may the new year be filled with lots of happiness, success and extraordinary moments that make you smile!
But before we head into 2019, I did want to take a minute to make a few final reflections on what 2018 was.
In the words of the immortal Aretha Franklin, “All I’m asking for is a little respect.”
R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Albeit there are still many more ceilings to bust through, women continue to stand up for themselves and demand equal pay for equal work. For example, the story of Lisa Wilkinson, who after 10 years on Channel Nine’s Today Show, left her job because the station wouldn’t meet her demands to be paid at least the same amount as her co-host Karl Stefanovic.
I am thrilled that so much activity is happening in this space. Co-workers standing up for each other and taking care of each other. From global campaigns such as the Me Too movement to national activity like R U OK, the Australian suicide presentation program, the workplace is becoming a place where people don’t have to hide who they are.
The shift ever so slowly from live to work to work to live is happening in workplaces right now. Rather than worrying about the next promotion or spending all waking hours working, both people and businesses are placing greater importance on family and finding a balance between the two.
More and more employees desire their companies to be engaged in the community from group volunteering to charitable donations. They want to see companies taking an active role in bettering the community and making the world a better place. In fact, you might even see a boost in recruitment when your business becomes more involved! Be a mission with a business as opposed to just a business with mission.
Instead of assuming your clients are the lower end of the spectrum for brains, companies are making choices in their marketing, ingredients, products and more that respect the smarter consumer. The smart consumer who researches other products and thinks about where and who makes the products are made.
As we say goodbye to 2018, let’s keep this respect thing rolling. Because “I got to have (just a little bit), a little respect (just a little bit).”
Imagine…
Your team’s running like a smooth, well-oiled machine. Your staff are raving advocates for your business and tell everybody they know how great you are to work for. You have an open feedback culture and staff are excited to come to work for you every day. You have increased your profits and productivity, and have a water-tight vision and culture, that attracts like-minded talent, and enables you to quickly filter out potential hires that are not a fit with your business. Your vision seems effortless, and every person on your team is FINALLY moving in the right direction with no delay.
They are focused. They are clear. They are dedicated. They are productive.
